How to stop the AOL Startup program after establishing a connection to 1USA

Q: I switched over to 1USA from AOL. How do I remove AOL?

A: Every time you establish a connection, you may be prompted to start AOL when you use your 1USA connection to access the Internet.

1USA and its services are not affiliated with or endorsed by America Online, Inc.

Change the default Email Program:
Click on the Windows Start button.
Point to Settings and click on Control Panel.

Double-click the Internet Options icon.

Select the Programs tab.
Change the E-mail and Newsgroups options back to the mail client that you wish to use. (most people use Outlook Express)
Optional: Check the box next to Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser.
Click OK.

Click OK.
Retry your 1USA connection.

Removing the AOL Pop-up:
You may be prompted to start AOL when you use your 1USA connection to access the Internet. The following window will appear: "Do you want to start AOL now?"

Click No to close the window above.

To stop the prompt from reappearing every time you use 1USA, complete the following instructions:
Locate the AOL tray icon in the system tray, which is in the lower right-hand corner of your screen.
Right-click on the AOL tray icon.
From the menu that appears, select Auto Start Options.
Check the circle next to Don't use any Auto Start options.
Click OK to exit.

Removing the AOL software:
To remove the AOL software, goto Control Panel > Add-Remove Programs and remove it from there. Pay close attention to select which versions of the software should be kept/removed. Do not keep folders or anything else; remove everything.

Internet Explorer web browser still shows "provided by AOL"
That is a Windows Registry entry. It must be removed using special software.
The software will be made available in the Members Area when available.
