1USA Newsletter October 3, 2002 Turning on the ability to save File Attachments |
|
| Problem: After updating IE6 (Internet Explorer 6) to Service Pak 1, it seems that Microsoft's IE6 Service
Pack 1 changes Outlook Express e-mail attachment settings so as to not allow attachments "that potentially
contain a virus". However, the jerks at Microsoft offer Too Little - Too Late because it prevents you from opening any file attachment. Duhhh. Solution: Open Outlook Express, go to "TOOLS" in the taskbar, then "OPTIONS", then the SECURITY Tab UNcheck the box that reads "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus". Also, change back to "internet zone" vs restricted zone. Click APPLY, then OK. Then attachments can be read or opened again! Microsoft's solution to stopping rampant viruses cruising across the internet is too little. Their fix doesn't address the newer viruses that go into action - by simply reading an email that contains a javascript virus. While Microsoft's solution is probably good for Yahoo, Hotmail or AOL users, it is overkill for 1USA subscribers. In fact, it's a pain to have to inform all customers to re-set the settings to what it should be. 1USA subscribers don't get viruses in their emails. Viruses are blocked at the server. Viruses don't get into your mailbox. Any file or Email that makes it through 1USA's virus protection is probably safe to click on. However, most anti-virus software does NOT include protection from Spyware or programs that allow you to voluntarily allow open access to your computer while connected. Read the details before you download any free software off the internet! The tekkies at 1USA are here to help you. www.1USA.Com Did you 1USA Today? |
