Windows NT 4.0 Dial-up

Windows NT 4.0 uses Dial-Up Networking to establish a TCP/IP connection to the Internet. The Internet dialer is built in to the Windows NT operating system and allows a very stable connection to 1USA.
After installing NT 4.0 on the computer, you must install Service Pak 3. Dial-up networking will not fuction until Service Pak 3 is installed.

1USA can provide only the below setup instructions to help with your NT Dial-Up Networking setup. For additional tech support, visit Microsoft's newsgroups on the subject.


First, install Dial-Up Networking

If you've already installed DUN and Remote Access Service, you can skip to the section "Adding 1USA to the Phonebook". You will need your Windows NT diskettes or CD-ROM for the DUN installation. If required, direct the installer to the path where your NT installation files are located.

1. Double-click My Computer and
then double-click Dial-Up Networking.

2. You will be prompted with a window explaining what Dial-Up Networking is and how to install it.
Click Install.

3. If you do not have a modem installed, a window asking if you want to the RAS setup to invoke the modem installer will appear.
Click Yes.

4. Follow the instructions in the Install New Modem windows to install your modem.

5. Next you'll see the Add RAS Device window.
Choose your modem and click OK.

6. Next you will see the Remote Access Setup window.
Click Continue.

7. After the remaining files have been copied onto your system, click Restart.

Congratulations! You've now successfully installed Dial-Up Networking and Remote Access Service. When you're ready to continue, go to the next section "Adding 1USA to the Phonebook" below.


Adding 1USA to the Phonebook

1. Double-click My Computer and then
double-click Dial-Up Networking.

2. If this is the first time you've used DUN (Dial-up Networking), you'll see a message that states that your phonebook is empty. Click OK to add a new entry. If you've already installed and used DUN, click New to add an entry for your 1USA connection.

3. Next you'll see the New Phonebook Entry Wizard. Name your new connection 1USA and click Next.

4. Select "I am calling the Internet". Click Next.

5. For Phone Number, type the phone number you normally dial to login to 1USA.

6. Click Next and then click Finish.

Now you need to configure the 1USA entry you just created.
Continue your DUN setup by going to the next step below.


Configuring your 1USA connection

1. With the Dial-Up Networking Phonebook still open, select 1USA from the Phonebook entry to dial: drop-down list.

2. Click More and select Edit entry and modem properties. This will display the Edit Phonebook Entry window with various tabs across the top.

3. Click the Server tab.
- Dial-up server type: should be PPP: Windows NT, Windows 95 Plus, Internet.
- Make sure that PPP LCP Extensions are disabled.
- Under Network protocols, only TCP/IP should be checked.

4. Click the Settings button. Configure the PPP TCP/IP Settings window using the following information:

Select "Server assigned" IP address

Select "Specify name server addresses".

Primary DNS: 199.190.73.2

Secondary DNS: 199.190.65.3

Primary WINS: 0.0.0.0

Secondary WINS: 0.0.0.0

"Use default gateway on remote network" should be checked

"Use IP header compression" should be checked

5. Click OK.

6. Next, click the Security tab. Select "Accept any authentication, including clear text".

7. Now select the "Basic" tab and click the Configure button.
"Use modem compression" should be checked.

8. Click OK. Click OK. Click Close.

Now your 1USA is configured to connect via PPP. You're now ready to dial into the 1USA network! Then next step is Logging in to 1USA.


Logging in to 1USA

1. Double-click My Computer, then double-click Dial-Up Networking.

2. For Phonebook entry to dial: select 1USA.

3. Click the Dial button.

4. For User Name, enter your 1USA UserID (Just the UserID, not the @1usa.com)

5. For Password, enter your password..

6. Do not enter a Domain Name.

7. Click OK.

You should see a dialing status window that shows the dialing process. Once connected, you should see the dial-up networking monitor on the taskbar in the system tray. If you right-click the icon you will see a list of options including one to disconnect. You can now launch your Internet applications and surf the net!
