When Outlook Express disconnects from the internet frequently.

  The problem:
When the computer disconnects from the internet "all the time".

The solution:
In Outlook Express, click on Tools > Options
Goto the Connections Tab
and remove the checkmark from "Hang up after sending and receiving".

The "Hangup after Sending and Receiving" should never be checkmarked if using a Dialup connection.

Likewise, the computer should be set:
- to automatically Disconnect after
30 minutes of non-use.
- to automatically retrieve new emails every
40 minutes.

OE should
not be set to retrieve emails off the server "every 5 minutes" - because if there is a big email to retrieve, OE will abort in the middle of the retrieval and start over -- causing OE to go into a loop and never retrieve that one large email.

If you need to check for new emails more frequently than 40 minutes,
simply click on the Send/Rcv button on the OE Menubar.
